How Did We Begin? With a Passion for Craftsmanship

Since 1959, A. Vos & Sons B.V., also known as Vosmedisch.nl, has grown from a small instrument workshop into a leading supplier of medical products and nursing supplies. Our rich history began at Krugerplein in Amsterdam, where 17-year-old Mr. A. Vos learned the trade from his father in the “electric grinding shop.” Driven by craftsmanship and a passion for care, Mr. Vos soon opened his own store in Rotterdam, called “Firma Vos.”

Before long, he returned to his hometown of Amsterdam. Here, Firma Vos grew rapidly, thanks to partnerships with renowned hospitals such as the Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek and the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis. In the 1960s, the range expanded to include medical instruments, laying the foundation for the comprehensive selection we offer today.

Our Growth: Family and Innovation Hand in Hand

In the 1980s, Mr. Vos’s sons joined the business, contributing to further expansion and innovation. Thanks to their vision, medical products became available to general practitioners, midwives, nurses, and medical students. Vosmedisch.nl was a pioneer in the Netherlands, introducing the rental of electric breast pumps, a significant innovation for mothers and caregivers. This led to our move to Eerste Oosterparkstraat in Amsterdam, where our company remains based to this day.

When 17-year-old Mr. A. Vos began working in his father’s grinding shop in Amsterdam, he couldn’t have imagined it would be the start of a successful enterprise in healthcare. After starting as an instrument grinder in Rotterdam, he returned to Amsterdam, where Firma Vos grew into a leading supplier of medical products. At the age of 17, Mr. A. Vos began working in his father Mr. H. Vos’s “electric grinding shop” at Krugerplein in Amsterdam.

In 1959, he returned to his birthplace, Amsterdam, where Firma Vos started as an instrument workshop and grinding shop for hospitals such as the Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek and the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Gasthuis. Later, in the 1960s, they expanded to selling medical instruments.

By the 1980s, Firma Vos offered a complete range of medical products for general practitioners, midwives, nurses, and medical students.

In the late 1970s, Mr. Vos’s eldest son joined the team, followed by his youngest son in the early 1980s. They are now the current owners of A. Vos and Sons.

In the mid-1980s, the product range expanded further to include nursing supplies. During this period, Firma Vos became the first in the Netherlands to establish a network for renting electric breast pumps for expressing milk.

In 1987, these expansions led to a move to a much larger premises at Eerste Oosterparkstraat 60-66.
